Could be wrong, but I'm not usually...

I believe you can -within the rules- fell your yearly 20 m2 all at once by doing the following.

Ring bark 5 m2 in each of the first three quarters, making sure they are proper dead, then in the fourth you can fell and extract 20 m2. This would be much easier for extraction etc as you can leave the trees until circumstances are just right for extraction.

FC have successfully prosecuted ring barking by horses as felling.

I'd also spend a few minutes calculating the volume.

5m3 or timber in small sizes is a hell of a lot. You only need to measure the usable height as well, so it he is milling, that won't be that long.

I bet he could fell an awful lot of these at the end of March and beginning of April ie 10m3

Hello Mr Magic,

If you have difficulty identifying these trees it doesn't bode well for your

"bushcraft courses and other wildlife education" plans...eh? hhh!:001_rolleyes:

Regards

Ty

I didn't say I would be running them :001_tongue:

We have a friend who lives nearby who's a professional bushcraft instructor and who's offered to run courses for us, I plan on attending them all myself to learn more about the land and the things growing on it. That's part of the attraction of moving out of the city, a chance to learn about these things.

Good on you mr magic. How's the plans coming together?

going through the buying process, hoping to complete some time in March and be moving down there end April - mid May when our current contracts finish. Fingers crossed we'll have the summer to settle in then back to work in the Autumn, but who knows whether it'll work out like that.

Can't wait to be down there.
