And just across the gorge under mixed Pine/Beech/Birch and Rhododendron was this pair.

 

This last one looks like the orange birch bolete, quite common around me at the moment:001_smile:

 

First could be as you say but not sure on the second..

Thanks Tony, can you comment on its significance? Similar to its relative? I found on an ash that also has I. Hispidus.

really depends on the tree species, planes probably cope well, but its strategy/lifestyle choice is a heart rotter, can be quite significant on beech in my experience.

 

Though lets not forget thats generally maiden or non veteranised trees, decay is much less problematic in veterans or greatly reduced trees.:001_cool:

Saw these on the heath today large red/brown toadstools 5/6in dia @ 8m on fraxinus. Any ideas?? Sorry for crap photo.

 

Really poor image :001_rolleyes: must try harder :biggrin:

 

Desicating Pholiota aurivella would be my guess, where abouts?

 

in the small field north end of main bit of heath by antenna

 

 

Did you not look at the base of the tree then? :biggrin:

 

girdled with the fruiting of Pholiota squarrosa

Missed them. In my defense I was getting it in the neck at that point for looking at fung and not playing with the kids!
