cosworth, you say the buts are too large for your logosol, have you not seen the trick some of our american friends have come up with, turn the box upside down, IE, place the but on the deck, then mount the m7 upside down onto the log, much better than the alaskan, youve got all the adjustments of the m7, the straght guide beam and the wasy to wind handle, it does work, Ive tried it on some large beech buts, needed a 36" bar but it cut them no problem, youve just got to arrange some method of lifting off the slabs, (fortunately Ive got the hiab on the mog) think about your cutting sequences and youll be surprised what you can cut with the logosol

Not bad at all for first effort. A couple of (hopefully!) constructive criticisms:

* Get a couple more handles onto the mill. It's best to be able to vary your hand positions regularly. Additionally, the one you have is back to front.

* On large logs particularly, it pays dividends to have a second person guiding the far end of the mill to stabilise the saw. You get a much cleaner finish and less of the deep gauging.

Otherwise, excellent and keep on milling!

cheers j ye I had my father in law holding the other side got some more buts to do so will turn the handle round by then ha

Some great pics there thanks for posting!

I still sit back after cutting some meaty planks like this and think that it's pretty amazing what a chainsaw can do...

Did you saw these all with the Alaskan or re saw them with the Logosol? If with the Logosol could you put on some pics as I often have Logosol owners asking if the Alaskan is worth having for milling larger butts.

:001_smile:

Hi Rob we done one all with Alaskan slabed it all 4inch then on the other two we sliced it down to fit the logosol will post some pics tomorow,
