Problem with stove - help please!

May be worth looking into one of those shiney rotating cowls you see on roofs. The are supposed to stop back drafts and help the chimney draw. I like the idea about using lots of kindling

Is it the only fire in the house. Or is there a plate above the fire box that lifts out check is this is the right way round by look in manual.

Has the stove been lit regularly, or left cold for a few days? You can often get a "cold plug" sitting in the chimney if it's been out for a while. One of our chimneys suffers from it - though not the one right next to it for some reason! I'd suggest lifting the baffle plate out, and lighting a scrunched up sheet of newspaper and holding it under the flue outlet - this should put enough heat into the chimney to get the plug moving then assuming the chimney is in fact clear, you should be good to go. Put the baffle plate back in though! Also when starting it - use a good bit of paper and kindling which will produce a good bit of heat without much smoke to get the draught established in the chimney.

Haven't used it since last weekend so that could be the problem.Will have a look getting the baffle out tomorrow. Cheers

The chimney needs sweeping again. Buy some rods and do it yourself. It's no biggy.

get yourself a baffle to put on top of chimmney this should stop back drafts when wind is in a certain direction also helps with the draw from fire up chimney. also when you light it are all the vents open to make a draft.

i use newspaper about 4 balls then put kindling wood on top and light it and let it roar. then put on logs. i have also found my logs are under cover but with so much damp they are not bone dry so bringing in more and dry them by woodburner.

has your logburner got a ashtray/pan at the rear of the fire just below the flue pipe where it comes out the fire it may need cleaning out as my fire has one looks like a biscuit tin size at the base of the flue pipe at the rear of your fire

Make sure the doors into the room are open when lighting to give maximum combustible air.

before u light the fire open the front put your hand to the flue u should feel the draft if not its not enough to draw and will need sweepin. most fire draw better once the flue is warm

If the flues clear, baffle is in correct and it still smokes the room with a warm flue check both primary and secondary air intake are open then you may need to increase the flue length to increase the draw.
