god damn the Protos is comfortable and absolutely pisses all over the petzl helmets ive tried.

Yes the Protos is a belting helmet and anyone who tries one on will want one but the thread started with a climbing helmet at a good price.. you cant knock petzl helmets, they are comfortable, light and until the Protos came out they were by far the best climbing helmet around, and they are a good price which to me sounds like he wants to keep his budget at a certain level :001_smile:

It's a big helmet but wearing it, you don't notice it. Huge amount of room between your head and the actual plastic of the helmet/ I can fit my hand between. Amazing how well the cinching system locks the helmet in place. If the colours a bit garish you can always peel the yellow stickers off. This is definelty the way forward in helmet design. I still think it's going to hot though but possibly an acceptable trade off- esp with being able to stow the ear muffs inside.

Now you are talking

I can, I had an alveo and it just feels so cheap. I could poke the brim and it would just bend, leaving a white line and a bit of a crease. It is obviously a lightweight helmet, but I think it's sacrificing durability a little too much for this. I got rid of mine as I was using it as my chainsaw helmet and felt that in the event that I was doing a dismantle and something actually whacked my head it would probably be of limited help.

I just got the petzl vertex vent with the muffs and the visor. I really like it so far! I have a large head, and there is still space to wear a light cap in winter if I needed to. I was worried about the web suspension, as my last helmet had a foam contact piece. It is more comfortable than I thought it would be, and will be really nice in summer with the vents open!
