hi does any one know if a 2005 3120 has a rev limiter

the saw starts and ticks over fine and if you rev it up slowly it well rev to about 8000 rpm before starting to miss fire any help would be usefull

Sounds like something is amiss but if it has a blue coil ( spark unit ) then its more than likely limited , if on the other hand it has a black one then no its not . spud will be on this shortly I suspect .

Hi it has a black coil and the plug is light grey it has had a new piston and original pot carb striped and cleaned

Sometimes the saw will backfire on full throttle and flames come out the exhaust

I whas thinking that The coil is at fault as it seams to holding back any suggestions

Sounds like it could be timing . Is the coil gap set against the fly wheel ? Maybe the fly wheel key is sheered and has slipped round a bit putting it out of time ?

Very good Andy, I am impressed, you been reading my threads again:thumbup:

Yup, it could be either of these and worth checking - I have had backfiring before caused by broken flywheel keys adn the coil gap/setting can cause a very rough and lack of performance running!

thanks for the help it whas the gap at the coil

i adjusted it this morning and tried it out on some 24" oak and she never missed a beat,

i have a husky 390 as well but i dont need two big saws, which saw would you say is the best for general logging for myself as i think i will sell one . also i have been looking at a

stihl 066 would this be a better saw for logging or am i better staying with my huskys

If you're happy with Husqvarna, don't change!

I'd use the 390 over the 3120 any day for general logging. The 3120 is HEAVY!, see Chainsaw data

The 390 is the best compromise between " big saw" and everyday saw . I would keep the 390 . I have a 390 , a 395 and a 3120 . The big ugly one only comes out as last resort . Toooo heavy !
