what a day.. started the alder job today it p***ed down allday, the river wasnt far off bursting its banks the only thing we were missing were our armbands and rubber ducks,we had to dismantle 9 of them because of heavy lean and a brand spanking new fence under neath the alders tommorrow my brother and daughter are splitting,we got 6loads to go out by saturday..andy

riverbanks are 1 of the most popular places to find alder

it grows well in damp boggy conditions which makes retrieving the stuff rather difficult

ive got hundreds to drop on a relations farm but not until after jan 31st as of the delectable pheasant shoot-and you guessed it all alongside the river

i recently scoured a small clump of alder and came accross about 10 standing that had died,they were that dry when i dropped them they broke into about 4 pieces,what i tend to do is mix it with other wood when burning,it gets the fire going well,to somefolk it is a weed but like most woods when seasoned will do the job :001_smile:
