At the risk of looking daft, for .325 do I want 3/16ths?

I always jsut ask for a box of .325, 3/8th etc files :blushing:

Chainsaw files are a little bit 'rule of thumb' - there are other size files and it depends on how you sharpen... I find you need a larger file if using it freehand without a guide or it tends to undercut the tooth...

A 1/4" file can be good for damaged chain in both 3/8" and .404...

Seems to be some nice 3.2mm files about now for 1/4" chain which can be tricky to get a nice shape on with a 5/32" file.

What size file do I need for my chain?

As a rule of thumb use the following:

arrow-blue.gif.404 chain use 5.5mm (7/32”) round file

arrow-blue.gif3/8 chain use 5.5mm (7/32”) round file

arrow-blue.gif.325 chain use 4.8mm (3/16”) round file

arrow-blue.gif3/8 lo pro chain use 4mm (5/32”) round file

Ok am sending out the file test today.... Sorry about delay - it's been manic.

There'll be a note in with them - please do not try and work out which file is from which manufacturer and do not post any results on this thread yet (as it could influence others).

Anyone else care to take part? Let me know before 1pm today.

Instructions are at the beginning of this thread.

Thanks, Rob

Hi Rob,

I've only just seen the PM you sent me and read the thread. I would like to have taken part, but I've just finished week one of a nine week full time course at Merrist Wood. So won't be out doing normal work for a couple of months more.

Andrew

P.S. Does anyone know how to get Arbtalk to send you an email when you get a PM, so you don't miss them?
