Cumbria, cheapest contractors in the country?

I am pretty sure that from living and working in Cumbria for 14 years and from working in other places in the country also, this is the cheapest place to find a tree firm.

I am not talking about the gardener with a saw or the farmer with his son and saw but real Arborist outfits.

At the mo, the going rate is less than £300.00 per team of two plus VAT. Some would argue but that is what I am finding, all the time especially on the coverted bigger take downs.

Is this tha same any where else?

How do you know that? I know that for a team of 2 me and a few other tree firms around me are alot more than that

Sometimes when I know that the customer is getting a few quotes I price lower than normal to test the water and still don't get the work!

Rare I do this but it never fails to amaze me.

Some companies have even resorted to finding TPO applications on the web and cold calling the client when the contractor has already won the work and filled out the forms, low:thumbdown:

I price a job based on what I want to do the job. I don't get every job but I do ok. Maybe the customer thinks you are to cheap? And gets someone else, I have had this before. Where in Cumbria may have some bearing on the price issue also.

What I saw of Lincolnshire seemed pretty cheap when I lived there 5 or so years ago. £300 would get you 2 men, pickup and chipper for the day. This was before the crash as well.

Absolutely no different from building firms, window firms, decorators etc, who look through planning apps and then write to, or leaflet, the homeowner. It's just good business sense.
