its hard enough doing firewood on its own without doing a tree for free.

was,nt me mate

Exactly, close to home their is about 6 tonnes of beech and ash in nice sizes for processor / splitter but would require a good day with a loader to extract due to access. Even this would is a last resort for my firewood production. One of the jobs in question was on a steep slope and 3 foot diameter tree and would require a lot of winching!

This is a recuring topic. This industry is full of people doing the job for pennies.

You have to stick to your guns, know your price and not get sucked in to a spiral of cost reduction.

The problem is, if there is not enough work to go around, you may as well pack it in, or accept that you will be working for a loss untill work picks up.

We have one guy around here we cannot touch on price. He is one third of the price of the average day rate for a two man team.

This month I have put in a price for two seperate jobs and have found out the tree work has been completed for sweet FA and just for firewood!! Are times really that hard or just firewood in such demand. Each job was not far off a full days work for 2 people :scared1:

Wonder what they are going to do in the summer when demand for firewood is lower ?

I have not seen the this recurring topic before of people doing tree work just for firewood otherwise I would not have posted :icon14:

Did not intend the thread to look like another one moaning about cheaper quotes hence its in the firewood forum.

I am not phased by the people completing this work for just firewood only, it just shocked me from a firewood prospective.
