Unless they are harlequin ladybirds - Japanese knotweed of the insect world!

 

Thanks HCR, i have just been looking at google images for harlequins and found this image

They certainly bare a resemblance to the ones i found, so does this mean we should we be looking to control these invasive ladybirds to protect our native species?
