Used to use 10mm to dust limestone and dry mix it and tamp in and let the moisture in the soil cure it, now I use postcrete most of the time less bulk to take to a job and you can get on much quicker, I've hung 12ft wooden gates same day using it before and had no problems ok so you need 3-4 bags for the hanging post but it means you dont have to guesstimate the distance for the clapping post and then leave it for two or three days and come back to hang the gate, its all done in one day saves time for me and means the customer isnt waiting to use a gateway

We used to use post crete but started using extra rapid cement which is 8 quid a bag and mixing it dry in a mixer at 4 to 1 just add water to hole same as post crete. Works same as post crete but cheaper done alot of small runs with it over last year or so and never had any movement on posts. Maybe doesnt harden quite as quick as post crete but certainly within a hour its good to go. Post cretes great till you hit a great lump of conc were you need a post and end up with a great big hole that uses 5 bags lol

Agree - sometimes we use a shovel of rapid and a shovel of normal depending on the length of a run.

Postcrete everytime on runs of less than 10 posts and where access is a ballache for a barrow.

Would recommend buying it in bulk (60 bag pallet+) from somewhere like Tradepoint (B & Q trade thing) as they always seem rock bottom on price.

Slight derail when featheredging I use a Paslode first fix for everything - 90mm smooth for the rails and 51mm rings for the boards (only works on good quality FE!) as its much safer than trying hammer a 4 inch nail into a post which may not have gone off enough.

don't know where you guys are buying your postcrete from but think they're having some individuals pants down!!

we do all posts with postcrete now, quicker and less mess.

We pay £2.30/bag (£2.76 inc vat) from our fencing suppliers 25kg bag made by mastercrete.

Unsure why some of you are paying £5.00/bag ,unless you are going to the big sheds for it (B&Q,Wickes etc)
