I have got ot go into hospital in July to have some cartilage removed from my knee by keyhole surgery. Has anyone else had this done, and how long were you off work afterwards? They tell me I will walk out of the hospital un-aided in the afternoon, but not too sure I believe that!

Had it done a few years ago. I limped out of the hospital.

You should be climbing in a week. Dont forgot to do the physio with the big elastic band thingy.

Had something similar done 2 years ago. Keyhole surgery in my knee to remove cartilage. Had it done on the Friday and was back at work on the Monday. For the first 24 hours try and rest it. After all you aint supposed to have a hole cut in the side of your knee and stuff taken out so it will be stiff and sore etc. but after that its all good!

I had it done about 12 years back after an accident,I think they messed with the bone a bit too behind the knee cap, took a week or so to be right back then, needs doing again now.

Give it a chance to heal & do the physio,no point in wrecking a good job.

Had mine done a few years ago too. Went in to hospital on crutches as the left knee was 'locked' and had been for a week.

Walked out later that day and went to work (only in the office) for a few hours. Back in the workshop next day.

My shoulders hurt more than the knee because of the week on crutches!.

Had it done about 3 years ago, you are supposed to have a couple of weeks off to recover but I was back at work within a few days.

It can be sore afterwards as the procedure involves hyperextending the knee joint for easy access. The actual incision and surgery is fairly minor, depending on the extent of the injury.

Mine was about the same time as Peter. Knee arthroscopy, two small incisions, cleaned out bits of floating cartilage & smoothed off the underside of the kneecap. No discomfort at all & walking easily immediately after. Got an amazing set of photo's showing the inside of the knee & all the damaged bits.
