I went and looked at various redwood forests while I was there in 96/97/98, I went to humboldt county, Mendocino county and various other places. At the time I was t really into trees, I was into skateboarding and there were loads of skateparks around these places.

I was based in San Francisco and we drove

All the way up the coast to fort Bragg and also along the redwood high way ( 101) from santa rosa where there was an awesome skate park to county, lots of redwoods there. Good weed too:)

This is me in 1979 somewhere on the west coast and hitching up to the Redwoods near San Francisco.

No pics of the trees survive it seems but I still remember it. Not just the sheer size of them, but the smells and sounds of the place.

Has anyone been to the Redwood forest in California or Yosemite? Im looking to go next year and would

be grateful if anyone had any tips on where to stay and any other useful info.

I am here: Google Maps

Send a message to MDVaden. He's a bit of an authority on Arbtalk with anything to do with Redwoods. Sent me a heap of useful info on how to get to the best places, where to stay, what to avoid and where to see the best trees. I missed out this year but I'm heading back next year to do Kings Canyon and Sequoia Nationa Park along with Yosemite.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just went down there last week to guide a family from the east USA, do photography, measure the Big Tree, and do some hiking. Did some sort of portraiture in Prairie Creek redwoods, but can't post all of the images on here.
