Nz work

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm from the UK and have spent the last year in Australia. I'll be leaving oz and landing in Auckland Wednesday morning. I need to start work ASAP. I'm an intermediate climber (3 years experience) and have own my climbing kit, PPE etc with me. To be honest oz has really taken it's toll on my finances so I'd be prepared to ground for a company as long as i could start straight away and if it led to climbing again in the future. Anybody know of any contacts, companies etc that could help me?

Cheers

Agreed. NZ is getting really expensive, especially if you're in the city. As per CraigD; check trademe, seek, Asplundh and Treescape are definately looking. There's also a new website that might have a couple of jobs on it but I can't remember the name. Drew?

Do you mean relative to the UK or just in comparison to how NZ has been in the past?

I'm in the early stages of applying for a job with Asplundh so it's useful for me to gain as much info on life out there as I can.

So how would you compare NZ to the UK in this respect? More comfortable or even tighter on cash?

Not going out there for money aspects but it is nice to try to get an idea of how it would be financially as a tree surgeon out there.

I worked in rural South Island on a junior arborist wage and lived pretty comfortably. Bought a car after two months (a crap one mind) and had enough cash left over each month to enjoy myself. Shared, basic digs but the thing out there is your not gonna want to spent a lot of time indoors. Just a place to get your head down and dump your stuff. What a country it is.

NZ is crap for money but it's such a nice place it doesn't matter-well not enough to make leave anyway. It's all good, just come here for a good time and not worry about how much you could be earning in other countries.
