It’s all relative, but not all PTO stump grinder are created equal or for that matter put on equal tractors.

You need to consider the tractors HP and hydraulic pressure/flow output, its weight and its lift capacity vs. that of the stump grinders requirements, if your tractor is at the bottom end of the stump grinders requirements it is never going to have the same work rate as a tractor that matches the top end of the stump grinders requirements.

Like B101 says its all relative, but the minimum engine I would use for a grinder would be around the 25hp mark (both Rayco and carlton use or used the Kohler command unit) will you get that power to the cutting wheel from a compact tractor? I'd guess not so I am coming down on the gimmick side. I dunno, would need to be convinced before shelling out.

How “compact” a “compact tractor” are we talking, given to me a “compact tractor” is a scaled down proper tractor with the features you would find on a full-size agricultural tractor, as opposed to something that is more of a glorified lawn-tractor/mower.

  • 4 weeks later...

didnt know these existed, any links?

i have a kubota 30hp compact, and have to say that its the handiest thing i own, front loader, back actor, hycrack splitter, can pull a 3t behind it on the road legally, but it dragged a 12t helicopter out of a hanger last year (just!!), just couldnt imagine being without it now

seen those crazy corkscrew type stump extractors on youtube,

but cant see a compact having the power or mass?
