MPG heroes - your best economy run?

Makes me wish I had a smaller car!

 

Would love a shot in an Audi A2 3L - only released on the continent and features a 3 cylinder 1.2tdi. Really the first eco car - someone did a round the world economy challenge with it and if memory serves achieved 114mpg.

I drive my Transit pretty steady and get around 21/22mpg.

 

The way fuel prices are I think I need to look at a cheap 1.1 Fiesta or similar to run around in for pricing etc.

'03 Volvo V70 D5 (2.4l turbo diesel) with 158k on the clock. I find it's a bit temperature dependent. In the winter I do about 45mpg, summer 53mpg. Currently running at 51.7mpg. This is mostly on short runs - no more than 15miles. It goes up a lot if I do long trips, nearer to 56mpg average. I do deliberately run it as gently as possible, lots of anticipatory planning to avoid braking, use of neutral on long downhills and very careful lines through roundabouts to avoid losing speed where possible. I still do 70 on motorways though as the instantaneous readout doesn't change much between 55 and 70. Only costs about 1mpg.

Look at the aygo/107/c1 group mark. 1l engine. Will do 300 miles on a tank no bother and will do 45mpg for a petrol on a bad run.

Peugeot diesels are the best for mpg (or they were..?)

Used to get between 800 and 900 miles a tank in my 406 hdi

I do this a lot. I do between 50 and 80 miles a day in the Navara and the mpg is around 33.

 

I'm yet to take it on an epic adventure. I did however manage an awe inspirining 23mpg out of the landy with a trailer driving down to somerset.

Dont. When you're coasting down a hill in neutral it takes fuel to keep the engine turning, when it's left in gear with your foot off the pedal the momentum of the car is what keeps the engine turning and no fuel at all is injected. There is some use in all this electrickery in cars after all!

 

 

I get about 52 overall in my 01 rover75 (199k) which is mainly short runs.

24-26mpg out of a average out of the 90 here, cruising/rattling at 55-60mph.
