wage per tonne for felling sitka spruce

Recommended Posts

Quick Question;

Am I correct in thinking a lot of climbers / tree care companies are diversifying into commercial forestry, if so why?

Most the old ones came from forestry ... Believe it or not there used to be good money in tree surgery.

i work every day in the woods as a cutter in cumbria. rates depend on the site, small crap higher rate...simple. At the moment we are on a rubbish site, medium size trees but really really hairy and the sites a bog. We get £2o ton for 3.7 logs, 1.9s, 1.7 posts. chip £16.

At the moment im lucky to earn 70 a day so yes its pants but on other sites with clean trees and a good rate i can earn 120 a day. So some times its crap and sometimes good. Its hard work and very few can be bothered to do it is the reality. people are lazy.

I was in tree surgery for years and the money was good but now too many jokers have pushed prices down and too many people doing it, easier than forestry though!!

well my car tax is free as its an ancient land rover with a tdi in. this site we are on is awful, one more rack to finish and im off to another with much bigger stuff so more money hopefully but the rate will be less of course! and yes its not much of a wage but this site is extra crap plus the fact there is no other work around here anyway! good times!

Forestry involves buying everything second hand cheap as possible to make it pay which is what im doing!! none of this tree surgery 17 new saws a year!
