I found a huge piece of fallen beech (nearly a whole tree) that i found a few weeks ago in the local woodland i used to frequent as a lad, it is full of fungi already and i can't wait to go back in the autumn to find out whats growing:thumbup:

i'll be making many trips back to this location over the next few years!

Ha ha, its very addictive rob, as youll no doubt find out!:thumbup:

So...........here it is up close & personal & a confirmed first for our site of Fomes fomentarius on Poplar.

We know have it on;

4 Birch

2 Oak (1 petrea & 1 cerris)

3 Beech

& now Poplar

I've observed the majority of these (80 %) over the last 18 months or so.

Perhaps it's local range & host association is on an increase.

Fomes more than just decay

Or used as alternative for Russia leather to make hats and handbags from. The photo's are of handmade articles produced by the Romanian "Taplázmester" Máté Karoly shown at the recent Pilze exhibition in Essen.
