When i was growing them we would cut them to size about 9 inches, pack them in crates with a little compost and then into cold storage.

They would get planted out when the privet and laurels were rooted around April/May with the willow being pushed straight into the ground with no root.

 

So in answer to your question probably no need for the greenhouse.

I leave Alder sun shoots wedged under a branch with the ends in the stream for a few weeks. Seems to trigger them off then strip off a bit of bark at the base and just push them in the ground if it's soft enough. 99% success rate with that method.
