No, if you pass C+E you automatically get B+E but not the other way round.

Yeah, bit of a difference between hitching an ifor up to a landy and getting a 45 foot semi trailer with a fifth wheel coupling hooked up to a artic tractor unit.

Just signed up to the forum after being a "lurker" for a while and am a bit confused with the whole towing issues. I have a post 97 licence but my boss has put me through my B+E licence. We have two trucks, a cabstar (3.5 tonne) and an iveco daily (5.5 tonne). My boss has said to me that i can tow the chipper behind either of the trucks as its classed as 'plant'. Im not sure about this, i was just wondering whether anyone could shed light on this. Cheers

Your boss is wrong and it could land you in trouble if you get pulled over in the 5.5t truck.

B+e means you can drive upto 3.5t and tow upto 3.5t (or whatever the truck is rated to tow)

this 'plant ' rule he speaks of is BS...

You need the c1+e for the bigger truck.

You can't drive the 5.5 tonner on a B category, trailer or no trailer. If you get pulled they will do you for driving without a licence, 11 points........

i have a c1+e but its only8250kg look on information codes if it says 107 you will be the same just a heads up because it says 12000kg next to picture

Surely 8250kg is c1 without +e? As is 7.5t +750kg trailer...?

The code 107 is on licences that have the C1+E category as a grandfather right, ie if you have a pre 1997 licence.

 

C1 is 7500kg MAM vehicle with no towing entitlement.
