The site for this year's event is near Rothley in Leicestershire.

 

The site is accessed from the North Bound A6 about 100 yards from its junction with the A46.

 

The Event will be signposted.

 

Open to the public from 9:30am

Entrance £5 per Car which includes a programme.

 

Judging Commences 2:00pm, Prize Giving 4:00pm

 

Event also includes a Ploughing Match Organised by the Leicestershire Agricultural Society, Trade Stands, and Craft Displays.

Its no more than 3 miles from here and my neighbour is ploughing there, I haven't gone as I think £5 a car with one single adult in is a tad dear! but thats just me.

Oh and there was a big farm sale this am!

Did anyone go? I was there, not competing but cutting for my accreditation. Some of the work was immaculate..especially the welsh styles.

This event got quite a bit of coverage in the national press, both before the event and over the weekend. Many of the papers carried photo's an interviews of the participants. In several of these photo's chainsaws, ( allowed under the rules of course), were in in shot and obviously being used, but many users had no PPE in evidence.

Does a different set of rules apply?

 

No, they're subject to the same rules as everyone else, it's just that there are a few dinosaurs amongst the hedgelaying fraternity, and not just the old boys, either. Some people think wearing a helmet is a bit "soft", or it "gets in the way". The organisers put a sign up saying that we are responsible for wearing the right PPE, but that's it. In my view, the stewards should enforce it, and even disqualify those selfish people who won't comply. If the national media are showing people not wearing the right gear, it won't be long before it comes to the attention of the HSE - if they decide to take a closer look at us, we could all suffer.
