Got myself a chainsaw winch, question is what to do with the oiler ? I don't want oil pi**ing out while using it so can I run the saw without chain oil in it. Will there be long term damage to the oiler ?

You don't dother putting any oil in the chainsaw. Is it a lewis winch you have got? If it's a lewis winch, you are better getting an old chainsaw and using that . I use a an old 372xp, as it would do my head in constantly chainging back for cutting use. I always keep the winch attached to the chainsaw. Also, invest in some dyneema rope, as the wire rope tends to kink, and can ba a pain.

 

Also, make sure you always have oil in the lewis winch, and use something to lock the nuts from the side of the winch, as oil tends to leak out if you dont.

Thanks guys, I've got an old stihl 044 and just going to use it. I'll take the oil pump out and leave it on the winch all the time.
