You don't dother putting any oil in the chainsaw. Is it a lewis winch you have got? If it's a lewis winch, you are better getting an old chainsaw and using that . I use a an old 372xp, as it would do my head in constantly chainging back for cutting use. I always keep the winch attached to the chainsaw. Also, invest in some dyneema rope, as the wire rope tends to kink, and can ba a pain.

 

Also, make sure you always have oil in the lewis winch, and use something to lock the nuts from the side of the winch, as oil tends to leak out if you dont.
