Climbing gear

Sending the new guy off to do climbing arial rescue soon, what kit is good or worth getting him.

 

He likes the willans seated harness got that already and some spikes but looking for ascenders descenders. Etc

 

Rope is not a problem got LOADS of that.

 

So what kit is good in your eyes and what should we avoid.

 

More importantly what he needs for the course, I know it's 35m of climbing line but what else. I've done the course but it was yonks ago and my gear is probably out dated by now, plus it's old and he needs some new shiny gear?

one rope, one harness, one lanyard with 2 karabiners, cambium saver, some prussik cord and another 2 karabiners for you climbing system/spare.

 

This is all you'll need.

 

Maybe a hitch climber pulley or micro pulley.

 

You need to learn the basics first figure out how you like to climb get reasonably good at it then start to invest in ascendors and other bling.

 

As all these gadgets and techniques are only as good as the climber who uses them.

 

I've worked with amazing work a day climbers who still use a willans and climb on both ends of their rope with prussik. I've also worked with guys who have the entire ART collection who I refuse to have any where near me.

For cs 38' Harness, lid, lanyard, two carbs, and friction hitch (prussic) and 1/2"rope 45m pole = spikes, ring or fig 8, woopie sling/rope, two slings, friction saver and personal first aid kit.

If hes going to receive some training from a training school they will provide him with the kit. The advantage of this is he will get to try several harnesses and will be able to find one that suits his physioligy best

Cool thanks for the posts, he likes the Willians and it suits him fine so think he will stick, he been climbing in the woods for practise and has got good at it, fast aswell.

 

The ascenders and descenders are a bit of afterthought as don't actually need them but I want some so it's a good chance to buy some.
