Recommended Posts

Glad to see one of my photos as your profile pic stevo! To anyone thinking of coming to oz to work, JUST DO IT! It was the best choice for me and I think it has improved my climbing quite a bit. Not that I was much good before!! Might get to meet you finally if you are in Sydney with Ace Arbor for a while Drew! You can bring a rope wrench for me to play with before I decide to buy one or not!! Ive only had about 10 minutes on one so far :(

Hey dude congrats on getting the climbing job in melb, let me know how you get on........

ps, you'll be fine as long as they dont see you climb or cut trees:001_tt2:

Hey Mr Ape,

I'm over 30 (only just mind) so i'd have to go down the 457 visa route.

Assuming all went well what are the chances of being able to convert the temporary 457 visa to permanent residency?

Also i only hold practical certs (NPTC), would I have to hold an ND or equivalent to apply for either the 457 visa or residency?

Cheers, Joe

Hi if your in your 30th year I'm sure you can still get a WHV, yes you can transfer to PR once you have completed 2 years in the same trade, it's also in your favour to stay with the same employer, you can follow 2 routes at that point, either apply for PR Independantly or have your employer sponsor you for PR, you are not tied to the employer at that point, it's just them confirming your ability and commitment to the trade

Hope this helps

If you go to immigration.gov website and use the visa wizard it will tell you if you can get a WHV, if you can do it as you can get out here and start working

I'm in my 31st year so i've missed the boat on that one unfortunately.

I was unsure on which visa i'd need and on where i'd stand on making the move permanent so thanks for the info there, much appreciated!

Still got a house to renovate and sell so it's gonna be a few months before I can look at taking the plunge but it's good to have the info in advance.

Cheers again,

Joe
