Ms200 rebuilt query

Hey all, im just after replacing the piston in my ms200 for the first time as a kind of learning curve. Ive yet to put the carb back on etc but was wondering if I hold the saw by the pull cord and the saw does not lower does that mean that there is good compression on it???

Sounds like you have good compression. Just wondering, how old is the saw and was it used slot before you changed the piston. Oor was there a partial seizure?

Ive no idea how old the saw is but its got both push and twist fuel caps on it the piston was scored up the side but the barrel was ok

It means you have probably got reasonable compression but I prefer to use a gauge to get a good reading - hope you know the reason for the failure in the first place as you may get the same failure with the new piston:thumbdown:

All parts were sourced for next to nothing bar the £25 for the piston kit, its just abit of fun really. Thanks for the tip though, i dont know the reason for the piston blowing but i guess theres only one way to find out

i would try to find out the reason why it blue mate if not i will happen again listion to spud he is a top bloke when it comes to fixing saws

If you do nothing else - make sure the carb boot has no holes or splits in it, make sure the impulse line has no splits and is pushed firmly home both ends and make sure the carb adjusters are 1 1/4 turn out from fully home before you run it.

 

It is unlikely the seals are gone - it is also worth making sure there is no carbon build up in the exhaust port.

 

I won't bore you with the technicalities but if you don't do this, you will probably have the same fault again:thumbdown:
