In the house of commons they refer to each other as "my right Honorable friend"

From my limited experience with such matters, I believe "The right honourable" possibly refers to the oldest off spring of a Lord/Lady.

 

May not be precisely correct but it's something along these lines.

just a customer i did a job for the other week, i noticed on her cheque her name was listed as such....i've heard it mentioned in the house of commons as skyhuck said.

monkeyd, youre probably thinking of the honourable as the title of a peer's offspring. I only know this as i worked on the estate of a baron in essex, where there is a very well known agricultural college, as a junior gardener. Steve, i think skyhuck is right in that it signifies an mp.

I've a few "Rt honourables" some are higher ranking churchmen, lawyers, but none have been MPs to my knowledge.
