Trouble is, alot of domestic work is based on price alone

eg, i have a customer booked in this week to prune a cherry tree, this has been done before by pikeys really badly (terrable pruning, tears etc) and she loves this tree, it's only small quoted the £100, gets a call the other day saying she had a flyer through the door saying a "tree surgeon" has quoted £40 to do it!

i told her either he's not trained or insured or he wont do it properly with the correct equiptment etc take your pick but the cheap work over the years is spoiling her tree.......she picked me but it does come down to price with so many people.

also the pikeys/cheap untrained firms de value us, knocked on one door to do a quote for the wife to shout to her old man "darling the wood cutter man is here"!!!

just got a flyer through MY door saying "Clarks Tree services, cheap no job to small or large, trees topped and lopped, conifers and trees cut down, garden work etc"! thought he must be a pro then........:mad1:

actually when it said topping i thought Dean was coming round!!! (only joking dean):001_tongue:

Good for you ICT, stick to your guns mate.

If you see 10 clients like that ,and half get you and the other half get the cheapos, You have made £500.

They have made £200.

If you go and quote a days work for £400 and do it, you have only been to one site and had one journey on one day.

The tossers have had to ride round all over the place and do 10 jobs to make £400, more probably 11 jobs to cover all the extra diesel.

And that will have taken them at least two days to your one.

So you get another day to make more money... or on the flip side you are no worse off than if you'd worked for peanuts and you have got a day off to spare.

Keep your chin up and don't lower your prices.

None of the other trades are lowering theirs.
