To the exhaust

Correct but have seen some Chinese pistons been stamped incorrectly so make sure the old piston and new one match - you have been warned!

Just had the side cover off the 395XP - bit of a mess, looks like the internal flywheel cover has had something shatter it, breaking it through and that in turn has taken a few lumps out of the flywheel fins.

Tried to repair it but on talking to the owner have decided to replace it - the flywheel shifts lots of air and if it goes, it may take out the outer cover!

Yeah that's a real mess to leave it like that Steve. Thanks for the advice and those exhaust bolts look just the job.

Busy day today, the Wolfman picked up his 084, his bloody KM100 Stihl had packed up yet again, quick fiddle with the tappets and bingo - running again:thumbup:

Been working on a MS440, the carb was plugged with a piece of sealent used on the brass plug and welch plug. Put it in the US cleaner and then resealed the welch plug.

The saw has been ported, not a massive amount to be done as Stihl haven't left much on the table. Opened up the piston windows to increase flow, widened the exhaust port, lowered the transfers and reshaped the upper transfers to improve scavaging. Have modded the muffler, looking at the front muffler cover for modification or may fit the dual port Stihl unit.

Fired it up today and seems a bit more lively - just needs tuning after the muffler is finished!

From the pics below, you can see what has been ground out - all ringed in red:thumbup1:

We may need to fix those tappet nuts. Started getting erratic revs from it on Monday. Doing a big hedge job tomorrow so will test it myself and get back to you.
