I pad

That's a real shame. Here in the midlands it works really well, even without the GLONASS. I can get at least 12 satellites in use even in dense woodland.

Sorry for the derail....I am interested in this thread because I have always poo-pooed the Ipad as a bit of an unnecessary gimmick. It's good to see people are making them work well instead of just being another toy to surf the net on.

I am trying to get our company working more efficiently including working remotely. It seems a tablet combined with some kind of 'cloud' hosting like Drop-box is a pretty savvy way to work.

I was the same tbh. But it is fantastic, take today for example; I have a client questioning us picking up some trees on a BS as groups rather than individuals, I am on the road all day but have put the report, tables, and plan on the iPad so I can refer to it when I speak to them on the phone later.

It is also great for presentations.

And angry birds!!

Im not to hot on all the tech jargon coming out in this thred but I do know that when i was in the army i spent ages looking for a good waterproof phone to use in the field ( as the radios then where useless) and my conclusion was that there just isnt the market for them so know body makes them! So i gave up and was just more careful not to get it wet!!!

Have you had a look at AutoCAD WS, https://www.autocadws.com/.

It is free and it will allow you to take your autocad drawings into the field with you - with or without wif-fi / 3G connectivity - (once you have downloaded the drawing file)

AutoCAD WS is essentially a very lightweight verison of autocad - but you can do redline, measure, layers etc. Also works on iphone & android devices.
