The right cord for the job...

Having a look through the new knot directory (spot on resource chaps pat on the back) I came across the helical.

 

This reminded me about a pal who uses it but was asked to find a prussic cord other than silverstreak to tie his helical because it wasn't rated high enough for use as a split tail. Or tie a closed friction hitch.

 

I am bringing this up because i wonder how many of us are not totally clear on what the recommendations are for the cord we use in different applications.
