Oak question

Ive recently cut down some Oak trees and this week have just split them in to billets do you think they will be ok to sell this coming winter? will they be seasoned enough?

This is just my opinion but cut in to logs and left in the sun not heaped with plenty of breeze your pushing your luck. cut into rings very unlikely. Cut into 3ft billets unlikely. Oak does take a long time to season you will need to cut log in half and meter before sending out in autumn. They will be excellent next year.

Yeah i agree unless you split into really thin billets it wont be seasoned through for this coming winter, what you need is a big greenhouse natural kiln seasoning .

i did the exact same thing this time last year, had 15t of Oak I billeted up hoping it'd be ready for last winter, I cut a few logs around Jan time tried at home and no where near ready, they are looking lovely now though

I tested a bit of oak today that I milled last summer, been air drying in an open sided shed.

4 x 3 inch , meter read 38% in the middle.

Sawn timber dries faster than split wood as end grain is exposed. This is why sawmill off-cuts make good firewood!

I heard you give oak a year per inch to fully season. I've got a big stack of it in the woods all logged up but I'm just ignoring it for a few years. Wet oak is a killer for flues.
