wage scales still seem poor though for what we do, i know tradesmen Brickies, joiners, etc who are on £700 to £900 a week!! i recently built an extension and it cost me £1400 to plaster it, it took one man 3 1/2 days he had a trowel!!! no pick, chipper, saws etc, etc and he was the cheapest

The problem is too many people want to do this work! There is always someone on here asking how to get into the industry, its simple the laws of supply and demand, if there is a surplus of supply the price falls.

The fire men a few years ago got very upset because tube drivers were on £34,000 a year and they were on £25,000, the problem was that there was a shortage of people wanting to drive trains so the wage was increased until it attracted people to do the job. Whereas for every vacancy in the fire service there were 80 applicants! so why pay more?

Very true... unfortunately. The firemen/women should be paid accordingly... I mean what is more dangerous driving a tube or being on call to attend a fire, RTA or cat stuck up a tree.

Debatable, IMO, the fire service do risk assessment these days and are not allowed to put them selves in danger!

i pay my starter with little experience 60, experienced grounds men 75 and climber 90 thats on PAYE. if they are self employed climbers and have basic tools ropes harness and saw it would be between 90 & 120 a day depending on the job

£0 to £30 per day is not enough to maintain climbing kit, saws, and pay PL insurance, IMO.

We are all dragged down by the lowest prices in your area. Ie here it is £240 a day for two man team.

We cannot compete for that money and they will run their company into the ground inside three years. Customer wins but as for wages- it filters down to low wages for employees.
