anyone know the correct size /spec for the toothed belt that drives the saw?

have tried a gates auto belt but find they stretch and snap very rapidly.

Not that it helps, but when I used to use the same Hakki Pilke I was for ever changing belts especially the saw one, they just never seemed to last.

Sorry that don't help

I think the trick is to keep them properly tightened. but it is a bit of a faff. went thru a stage where i was going thru sets of 3 drive belts every week.tightened em all up and now doing ok.

the original saw belt did last reasonably well. replacements since have been crap. I'm sure this is down to using the wrong belt or a worn pulley on the saw head

I have been using gates belts on our 2x now lasted 2 years. If you take them to your local auto shop they should be able to measure them. I have a cross ref book for gates if you have the size of the old belt. If you order from M Large make it a good one I seem to remember the postage is £20 minimum

Correct saw belts are XPA 882 for machines with 15 inch bars ( earlier machines) and XPA 850 for later 16inch bar machines. Early machines had aluminium pulleys which wear and then start devouring belts . These can be replaced with steel pulleys which give much better belt life. You can contact me on 0820732700 for service/spares info on these machines. Mitsuboshi belts generally give the best service life.

In the past I acted as a distributor for Gates Industrial drive belt and hose division.

The belts you require are DRIVE belts and not car or truck fan belts. AVX13 x 850 I am sure is ( or certainly was in my day !) a fan belt, ( 13mm top width, 850 outer circum). Drive belts are designed specifically to transmit significant power not just drive a small alternator or power steering pump.

There are a number of different belt sections, A and B used to be the common imperial belt sections, then came metrics, SPA,SPB, SPC etc. These are in no way interchangeable as the top width, sections and depths are all different.

Fan belts will only last a very short time when used in these applications even if the top width is right. Gates make a very high quality product, if it failed quickly it is either the wrong section or the pulleys are misaligned or worn. Belt pulleys do wear as the belts grip the side of the pulleys ( not the bottom) to transmit the power. Belts with cogged inner radius are generally preferable as the are designed to go around smaller diameter pulleys while not putting excess strain on the cords within the belt that are transmitting the power.
