Bats... lovely little things but causing mayhem here!  I asked on here for a survey a while ago:  little did I know what was actually involved.  Two surveys down, another one booked for the winter I think (to determine if the active roost in the house cladding is also a hibernation roost) and one for May/June next year to see if it's a maternity roost! We've withdrawn our planning application as a result as we wouldn't be able to do anything until at least next August and there's other stuff we want to get on with.

The recent pre and post dusk survey identified activity of five species in the vicinity.  The 7 individuals seen roosting during the day in the cladding were Soprano Pipistrelles

Glad you enjoyed it, Northumberland is lovely. Now, can you explain why the moon appears to be in orbit inside the cathedral?

Didn't know that slugs are partial to peanuts but I've been seeing slug trails where I put nuts out for the visiting badger. Last night the slug was impatiently waiting for supplies to appear!

Some types of slugs are actually partial to each other, carnivorous slugs. Disgusting creatures! Though I'd happily have more of those particular ones around, to see off the veg munching buggers.

Howick has some really nice trees in it. Howick Hove is just on the seafront down from there, it's a really nice little bay.
I worked with an ecologist who found a long eared bat that lived directly above the bell in a church, it must have been a heavy sleeper.
The churches love swastikas.
