leaf minor is epidemic around here ! i would say 99% of the trees ive seen have it and i think its going to get worse ....mind you burning infected leaves after the fall will dramaticly cut down the damage in summer...ive tryed this on one of the first and worse infected treees in this area and its looking much better but the little critters seem to be attacking now... burning leaves is going to be impossible in some sittuations ie wood land.

As for bleeding canker i would say 50% have it,A lot more carnea seems to be showing up symptons of it this year, they are harder to diagnose as the trunk girdling isnt as obvious as white chesnut.....i think its definietly more of a problem in the south though.

Thought you might like to know I have some evedence that bleeding canker on chestnuts has been around for at least ten years its just we haven't noticed it as much. It probably came to promenance as a result of a run of dry summers and it is definately less evident this year after two wet years.

Also many trees recover, it generally the stressed trees that do worst and many of the cracks are superficial and don't inhibit the structural safety of the tree

There have been some develpments n the Cameraria as well with early trails of a fungal pathogen to the moth

Enjoy

We have at least a couple of hundred chestnuts and although i cant remember when i looked at a chestnut without either leaf minor/canker etc we only have a couple in line for removal in the next few months and they are due to internal decay.

Too many are being felled because they look bad with brown leaves and brown exudate seeping from them, not because they are structurally unsafe within their environment.
