Phytophthora ramorum

Sudden Oak Death ?

Not 100% convinced on this one, so am very keen to hear others views, before I give those brainiacs at Alice Holt a buzz.

Hear is a very mature Quercus patrea, Sessile oak

Saw this exudation on it this week, while giving the old girl a once over.

As you can hopefully see from the pictures the tarry ooze is spewing forth from an open wound at about 1m from the ground.

Once the liqiud has made contact with the air it is solidifying and becomes just like tar.

Or is this just fermented cavity liquid evacuating ?

Any takers?

Is it coming from the inside or the necrotic bark around the hole? If from the bark, then I'd guess it might be Bulgaria inquinans? Otherwise, I guess a Phytopthera. Looks a bit thick to be simply miscellaneous tree interior goo, but mighty nasty either way.
