carving a crocodile

Just after any hints and tips really. A friend/customer has asked me to carve a crocodile for their shop. I have done a few carvings in the past which have turned out ok'ish, and i did explain i would have a bash but couldnt promise anything. he has some pics for me to work off, but figured it wouldnt hurt to get a bit of advice from here

Tranquilize it first or it will just keep moving around and will be a bugger to carve...................sorry.

i use a local wood carver for jobs like this, i tried a mushroom once but it ended up looking more like a dumbbell.

Last year I went to Selby Game fair, there was a chap there called Mark Bell who had done some realy impressive carvings. One that realy stood out was a crocodile and it must have been 10ft long.

My boys school has two or three carved crocs I'll get some pictures.

Steve, I made one about 8 years ago it was 7ft long and about 14 inches diam.

Forgot to say... all done with chainsaw except flattened back finished with power plane.

Timber was (from memory) some form of cedar.

Tried complex legs but settled for simple stands - it was @@@@in heavy.
