Just bought a brand new ms 880 from the local dealer and i havnt even worn it in yet and i am having problems with it. .it gets really really hot and its as if the chain is wanting to seize up etc. . . .and it is making a funny noise. . . (like a cluth grinding or something). . I have checked oiler and tension on chain etc. . . ..

Anyone else had this problem before?

And does anyone have a soloution. . . .

Otherwise i think i will have to take it back. . . Lol

did yours do the same?

I bought mine with a 48" hard nose bar which reduces the power due to increased friction . One oiler broke fixed it and was told to change bars. Changed to a 36" normal bar all good now . Even now when ringing up I always add extra oil to the bar by hand . Yes my saw did pretty much as yours .

Is it a problem with the clutch bearing?

Have you turned the oil so is giving max oil to the bar?

I had a group down recently for a chainsaw milling course. They had a brand new 880. I'd run a tank full before they started using it.

On their 6th plank the saw stalled. Went to re start it and it was pulling the chain round on the starter cord.

The bearing (which had a plastic case) had melted and then shed the needles into the oiler (and knackered it).

I honestly think (especially after Stihl mentioned to a dealer that 'as long as it says stihl on it they will keep buying it') that the quality if stihl is falling rapidly. I am VERY unimpressed with the ms362, and compared to my 088 which is about 10 years old and has never missed a beat, be it milling or cross cutting, the above posts are most concerning.

Ditto - from what I've heard the 088 is a tough long lasting saw - better than the 880.

.... It is irritating how Stihl give the impression of being their own biggest fan :sneaky2:

I know their saws are getting more technologically advanced but I'd agree - the build quality isn't.

That just sums it up Rob.

Its that old see-saw thing between stihl and husky i reckon. As one gets really good, the other's quality seems to go down- I am starting to get back into husky saws after about 11 years of hating their build quality and ability to sieze!
