To Mulch, or not to Mulch?

David, the mulch appears to be rather coarse, and 6"+ deep. Am I seeing this right?

The results are impressive. Cardboard is a great carbon source to jumpstart the ecological processes.

Hello Guy,

the mulch is coarse (kinda all that was at hand) & is around 6" deep in most parts.

A few rhizomorphs in evidence (not sure of which Armillaria species.)

Howdee Tobias,

Four years on since the begining of the mulching, no weeds really, but then we pull them up if it looks like they're getting a foot hold.

Plenty of wriggly things

No fibre of the original cardboard is left, but the plastic of the selotape is obviously still in there.

Few pics from earlier this morning........

Sorry I missed this update when you first posted it, David. Thanks for taking the time and being so thorough.

Four years, wow!

Four years, wow!

How time flies when you're having fun.....:001_smile:

a visual of the continuing management of what is a very resiliant & vital old tree :thumbup1:

The latest reduction (its third) is due to a longitudinal crack (of some concern) on the trunk running from the base up to the main cavity.

I want to keep on with the gradual reduction toward a lower form.

Video is a bit of a drag, but has been put together/edited for my own reflection of the health of the canopy when we review it over the coming years (hopefully)

The below images are from this morning, which is a few weeks after the reduction.
