Silver Birch topping out?

They dont respond at all to topping, it'll rot, look awful and become dangerous! I hate doing anything to birch other than felling them! They look nice but are in essence a woodland nursery tree, with a fairly short life span in any case. Fell It!

ive got one to reduce, its been hacked badly in the past, i wouldnt top 20ft off it though. i would rather just take it down!

 

ever seen birch as a hedge? a previous client had 3 next to each other which he maintained as a high hedge at about 5m. clamber to the top, stand in lots of rotten water filled unions and swing the 200t around and voila a trimmed birch hedge.
