Buying from the states

I avoided import taxes a few years ago as the gear was purchased in the states by a friend who then re-packed the gear in a plain carboard box then marked the box as sports equipment for customs and sent it to his sister who lives near me.

Naughty though, it wasn't my idea, honest, so I never told you right?

afaik if its sent as a gift, free sample or its value is less than £18 you don't pay import duty or vat obviously if its an expensive item you take the risk if it goes missing(if you have it posted at value less than £18)

some companies won't send things as gifts or reduced value

i'm sure used item aren't subject to extra duties either
