Seemed a bit of a rigmarole for something straightforward?

 

However, just to play Devil's advocate, how did you justify climbing it as part of the R/A ? :biggrin:

 

Surely it would have felled along the bank, maybe stick a retaining line in off a tree at the rear if it looked like it needed it?

Well i told james to hold his breath as air is very light so if it failed he would float safely towards the ground like a hot air balloon:001_tongue:.

 

I based it on the report carried out by another consultant a year ago. But also checked for external cracks and weak decay unions that could pose a threat to the climber.

Ian/James,

 

do you know if there was there any reference on the tree report (if at all there was a report) of what had caused the heart rot?

 

My guess would be Phaeolus schweinitzii.

 

Possible that it may be Sparassis crispa though.
