... You could have felled it safely from the ground. BS about damaging twigs on other trees doesn't come into it compared to the value of a human life...

 

No way to simply fell the tree without doing major damage to other trees in the fall line. A hangup would have been the most likely result in any direction available. The only halfway clear line of fall was where the children's playset was anchored, well within reach of the tree.

 

Here is a video of placing the rope in the tree, please note the hotness of the customer towards the end of the video.
