Full bore shooting is great if you have the range time available Stubby, if you are getting up to Bisley once a month that’s not bad at all. Scope wise try “UK varminting “classifieds section , there’s loads of good quality used target/tactical scopes that come up when people upgrade etc. Get the reticle choice right and it can help massively with hold over/off etc. What 308 you using ??

I sold my Remington Armalon 308 a while back, due to take delivery of a Bergara B14 HMR next week, bit lighter but should still reach out if required and gets good write ups for the price.
I like 223 for the range too, bit easier on the cheek compared to some calibres as you get older, but truth is I put 50 rounds of 22lr down for every full bore round I fire.
Know a couple of lads using the Arken scopes who are very happy with the results they are getting vs cost.

Browning Xbolt . Thing is I already have the scope I described above ( the one I looked at the cow with ) . Just wondered what others would recommend as I bought it on the recommendation of an advert/review  really  rather than from experienced shooters like  .yourself . It seems to be good but other than the Hawk I have on the .22 ( which is also good ) I have limited experience of trying scopes .

Picked up the Bergara 308 today and a new mod, initial impression are good bolt is slick, factory trigger more than ok and the stock is easily adjustable, fits me ok and I’m 6,5”. Just need to find a way to pay for another S&B PM2 without the mrs noticing 🤔. Easier said than done.

There’s a shop in Scotland that has a pretty steady supply of used 3-12 and 4-16 Schmidts. Will look name up later.

Macleods in Tain always have some decent used scopes as does Hunters Cabin near me. There’s some nice used kit on UK Varminting too. Plenty of good alternatives out there manufacturer wise but S&B have always been a reliable consistent tool, unfortunately they don’t half hold their value. I’ve a decent bit of glass to go on in meantime so no rush.

Everyone else started on the pheasants yet? First proper day today. My mate I usually go with absent but I’m trying to get out of the house more. Beating, not shooting.

A £1000 rifle will shoot lights out these days. I wouldn’t hesitate to put a £2000 scope on a £200 rifle either. They can shoot too. The scope is more important.

I dunno , some guns are just crap ! No amount of scopes or sighting in will the things ever shoot straight.
