Found a nest with eggs today in a row of Leylandii ,decided to leave it thats just me ,some of the guys wanted to waste them .We can come back and fell and chip the remaining tree in 30 mins no probs there. I know there not protected but it just seems a bit pointless if you dont have to.What do you lot say

Chip 'em.

Had a couple of nests during spring this year with chicks in. Impossible to see the nest until the conifers were either half down or felled. They went through the chipper too.

Once a nest (or its surroundings) has been disturbed the parents are highly unlikely to return to the nest. Although it is cruel to chip them I personally feel it is better than leaving them to starve to death.

If however I see a nest before a job has started I will ask the customer to ring me back when they have seen the chicks fledge or just arrange to go back a month later to check myself.

Soft boil, coupla mins, hard about 3mins. The young birds are a delicacy too, so as not to waste them by chipping them. Seriously, pigeons are a serious health risk, the faeces around the nest carry all sorts of bacteria, and its best not to inhale the dust around a nest. I, therefore, have no qualms about removing them, discreetly of course.

I thought every bird was protected.

ALL nesting birds ARE protected!! http://www.the-tree.org.uk/EnchantedForest/nestingbirds.htm DONT FALL FOWL OF THE LAW! :post:

Well i'm screwed then!

Pidgeons don't concern me to much, if I find them during a fell then i'll continue and dispose of them discreetly.

If I spot them before I start i'll speak to the client and see what there view is and if they are happy to reschedule.

I'm not a heartless bastard and don't take any joy in murderin birds or any wildlife, but I have a job to do.

Its natures way anyway, and last time I checked humans are top of the food chain.

Besides i'm pretty sure domestic moggies kill far more birds every year than we do.
