I liked it.

For all we know they could be a bunch of Loggers who taught themselves how to do this. They may not be any further aware of this industry than the "Sherrill" Cataloge.

,its just a few unpolished Climbers getting it done in their own way.

I would agree if I believed that Mike, but I dont buy it.

My feelings on the sloping cuts echo Rupes exactly.

I guess we cant all like the same thing.

I dont like the sloping cuts! The climber should think of the bigger picture, they are easier to split if the cuts are straight (perpendicular).

.

If they worked for you then this is important if they worked for a crew that didnt do firewood and just gave it away it doesnt matter:biggrin:, the quickest safe method wins everytime with me. I am sure reg doesnt section out lengths that are suitable for the timber merchants UNLESS instructed before hand:001_smile:

We dont waste much of anything Stevie....try to keep everything logical and systematic i.e.

Today I straight felled 3 70ft larch, but let a young guy sned-up while I cut up the logs. He left stubbs up to 6 inches all over the place, others he cut flush. I asked him why? he couldn't answer!

Why did the french guys footlock that tree, twice, when they could've ran up it on spurs with half the effort?

Whoever kept hanging on to the rigging line when those limbs shoulda been well on the way down the tree....where's the sense to continually do that?

Why were they winching/raising logs in mid-air, with no obstructions at 50+ feet?

No need to answer Stevie, and of course I could go on and on, but then I might have to watch it through again to further elaborate....I really dont want to do that.

Yeah they got it down, but for me it was far too wasteful throughout.

Some of the worst climbing and rigging I've seen, their approach to that tree was ill-thought out and riddled with inconsistencies.

If the video was designed as a promotional film to show their skills and use of equipment it was a spectacular failure. For me the most important aspect of treeclimbing is work positioning, these guys have a lot to learn in that respect.

All show and no substance.

Stevie, even if you are giving away the timber (and its shape is not important to you and the job in hand) you should (or could) still consider that someone is going to split it one day.

Good climbers should be better than that IMO. Think beyond what is best for you, and think about what is going to give a better result for all overall.

The second film shows what they call rollotube, something I have used for about two years when dismantling big chunks. Mine is homemade and costed me a few quid. Great aid though!

tells a story when the climber feels the need to climb the stem @ 1.58 to be clear of a section. Imo that section should have been allowed to run this to me shows a lack of confidence in both his and his teams ability.

However as promo vid to potential customers, i think it would do just the job.

As a instructional video it would be filed alongside dadios too much bs:thumbdown:

Have none of you lads ever been to France?

This was the A-Team in action from what I've seen over there!

Reg, I too was baffled by the footlocking. The lad obviously doesn't smoke enough Gitanes!

Cringed with the way they were slinging the saw. Cut knuckles waiting to happen. Also, letting lumps that big catch tight on the rigging is dangerous for the groundie. He would have to remove my boot from his rectum at his own expense.

Loved watching it all though. Their Gallic confidence shines through, and it would be pretty boring if we all did it right, eh?
