Axe recommendations

Just after a quick recommendation for a new axe for firewood. I'm not after a splitting maul as I already have one, but a replacement for the crappy 4lb 'felling axe' I had from Screwfix who's handle smashed yesterday.

I do enjoy splitting, and am quite quick through straight elm, sycamore, oak and beech provided I have the right weapon! There are a lot of axes on Jonesies site, but I'm not sure which to go for. Something in the 3-5lb range, with a thinnish head so as not to sent the wood flying.

Thanks in advance,

Jonathan

im after the same thing mate. Been trying to get hold of one of the Fiskars/Wilkinson/Gerber ones that B&Q and westfalia used to stock but cant seem to find one for love nor money.

Aparently being re-released in the new year with new model numbers so i might have to wait until then. Heard nothing but good about them

I have a Fiskars Super Splitter with 4lb head.....its superb.

Got it from Westfalia online, last time i looked they appeared to have stopped stocking the Fiskars range

Ecolojim...are Westfalia re-releasing the fiskars range? Have you contacted them? and if so what did they say?

Im not sure about westfalia specifically, but i looked on the fiskars website and it shows their 'new generation' axes which look identical to the (current/previous) ones but with new model numbers, for example i gather the new super splitter may be called the X25.

It was there, i saw the reference to available from Jan 2011
