Storm damaged Monterey cypress

The Tree had laid a stem across the roof of the famous Mermaid Inn in Rye.

Real brain teaser (and pant-browner).

Still windy today, but dry and much more settled. Climbed the main stem, decent anchor, and two ropes installed as tether lines. Out onto stem, nibbled away till it was about to go (about 2" left holding at the base, then tensioned tether lines off truck hitch. Final cut, ropes then held (whew!), and, clear of building, chog, retension line lower down, chog, repeat etc. till finish.

Owner is in Africa, wants to get back before agreeing to takedown, but there is no other safe option. Last shot is 5-tonne ratchet strap left there to appease hotel management (RHS stem looks favourite to fail very soon, over their car park). Shame, but there we are.

'Stone Cold' Polish Irish Muslim Steve Woodnuts running the rigging and multiple waggoners hitches.

Roast beef sandwiches and all the trimmings courtesey of The Mermaid. You couldn't work for nicer folks (and it's not even their tree!). Good day. Missed shooting, mind.....

Looks like a Monterey cypress - they're more prone to failure than yews.

Sorry, was indeed a MC. Yew was yesterdays, pics didn't load from that, too many Stellas and not enough sleep. Yew was a small limb on a barn (which I think had neen nudged with a Telehandler....Hope I didn't tip the Yew chips in the horse paddock....:confused1:

James, takedown week on Monday most likely.
