Sorry if this has been asked before, but Im looking at buying a 30ft by 8ft steel shipping container when i get my new yard next year. Im not too fussed on the condition as i can do all the welding and stick some lock boxes etc on myself. I need to be able to store my chipper, all tools and equipment and also have room for a workshop. Was just wanting a guide price as i havnt got a clue. Also do you guys that use them have problems with condensation etc.

Thanks in advance Lads

Not sure about shipping containers, but I've got a couple of backs off refridgerated trucks and they are very inexpensive. I got two for £1000, both in superb condition. Perhaps not quite so secure as a shipping container (maybe not big enough for the chipper either) but great for tool storage as they don't suffer so badly from condensation.

Easy to heat too if you plan to spend much time in the workshop.

Pal of mine bought 1 3yrs ago for £1200. He is putting up a store and workshop now so think it might be going surplus at some point. Its top notch condition actually and would be a hell of a buy for someone, certainly big enough for what you want it for.

i just had 2 x 20footers delivered last week, got them direct from a building site as they were in the way for the next phase of work and wanted shot of them. They cost me 250 each with 50 quid delivery.

With regards to the condensation, a few vents in the sides help as does a dehumidifer.

My mate has a straight clean 30foot container for sale but its had a conversion to office/tea room for site works, thats not alot of money if your interested. its also wider than a standard container from what i remember.

i have a 10ft one, bought for £500. 2.5m wide.

It used to be an old generator housing so has two huge vents on each side which are now boarded over but arent air tight, a big hole at the top centre and an exhaust hole, never have a problem with condensation, its inside a workshop so water doesnt get in either!

to fit a chipper in aswell id go for a 3m wide one andas tall as you can or youd be looking at moving the chute possibly whenever you wanted to store it.
